Fighting the Fire

Fighting the Fire

How many times can you fight the fire that’s in your head until it turns

back around to burn down what remains of your rampant emotions?

Does it ever tire itself of being so alive?

Simple words, simpler existence.

This is what you choose because you think you can lap lies around

in your mouth long enough until you can believe them.

You choose to dwell in the heat of your anger, but only you burn,

because even though you are fire, you never learnt to scorch

what isn’t yours. And for as long as you can remember, only you

have been absurd enough to belong to you.

How strange that you should lose that too.
